Energy Management's Analytics & Data Science team works to accelerate the transition toward a carbon-free future through software and analytics. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer Team Lead to help us accomplish this mission. This role is based at our DNV office in North Andover, MA, Chalfont, PA, New York, NY, Rochester, NY, Troy, NY presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office. The position may also be considered at other DNV offices within the Eastern Time Zone.
What You'll Do
As a Senior Software Engineer Team Lead, you will play a dual role:
Hands-on builder (60-75%) — design, build, and maintain the backend services, APIs, data integrations, and DevOps tooling that connect our analytics/data platforms to our React-based customer-facing web applications.
Team lead (25-40%) — coordinate and mentor a small offshore development team and provide technical alignment with onshore developers in a partner org.
You'll work closely with analytics engineers, data engineers, ML engineers, and Product Managers ensuring the work of the web development teams is aligned, maintainable, and integrated into our larger data ecosystem.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on variety — you might write SQL queries one day, debug an API integration the next, and lead a security or performance review later that week.
Task May Include
Build & maintain backend services and APIs that expose analytics results to web apps
Write SQL queries and optimize application performance
Support sprint planning, code reviews, and technical guidance for a small offshore developer team
Align work of offshore web developers with data/analytics priorities
Improve CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and security posture
Develop reusable libraries and utilities to accelerate both web and data teams
Create documentation, architecture diagrams, and onboarding materials for developers
Contribute to system design discussions on how analytics systems integrate into customer-facing applications
Troubleshoot production issues across the stack (databases, APIs, front-end integrations)

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years professional experience as a software engineer, including full-stack or backend work
Experience leading small engineering teams or acting as a tech lead
Proficiency in:
Python (including libraries for data access, automation, and APIs)
SQL (PostgreSQL, T-SQL)
Azure DevOps (CI/CD, containers, pipelines)
REST API design
Typescript / Javascript
React or other front-end frameworks
Strong understanding of system design, code quality practices, and secure development
Comfortable working across time zones and coordinating with offshore teams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)

What is Preferred
Experience in the energy industry or clean energy applications
Familiarity with Databricks and data engineering workflows
Understanding of application security best practices (OWASP, secure coding, secrets management)
Prior experience managing offshore software development teams
Experience with distributed systems or event-driven architectures
