Job Description

The Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering is seeking a self-motivated and talented individual to serve as Financial Support Technician. The Financial Support Technician will provide administrative and financial support for the Center for Renewable Energy and Aerodynamic Technology (CREATE) and for the Virginia Tech Stability Wind Tunnel. This position serves as the front office contact for the Center and the Wind Tunnel, and provides administrative and purchasing responsibilities for Aerospace and Ocean Engineering faculty, staff and students. This position will provide grant administration for externally and internally funded grants including assistance in the financial management of projects from initiation through closeout, and serve as the liaison between faculty and the Office of Sponsored Programs for these projects. Other responsibilities will include managing wind tunnel invoicing and providing the support needed for the day to day operation of the center. Tasks may include, but are not limited to monitoring and/or reconciling financial activity, maintaining records, analyzing data, preparing financial reports, developing budget forecasts, and interpreting and disseminating programmatic information regarding the terms of the grants to a diverse clientele. working with the director to meet the administrative requirements of the center.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelors Degree in Business, Management or related field
- Demonstrated experience providing financial support, such as budget planning, interpreting accounting policy and procedure, and providing fiscal oversight for research projects
- Experience such as generating documents and reports using various database and spreadsheet software programs such as Excel.
- Ability to independently set priorities, manage tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills needed for pleasant and professional interaction with administrators, faculty, students and staff.
- Must effectively accept challenges and responsibility; take pride in setting and achieving goals; demonstrate a strong work ethic and team orientation; and demonstrate the desire to work in a student and research oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous financial experience in a center or academic department.
Familiarity with grants and contracts award and administration regulations.
Experience working with financial and procurement systems.
MIcrosoft Excel Certification.
