The Chair will report directly to the Dean of the College.
The School of CMB is an innovative academic unit designed to promote interdisciplinary research and education at the boundaries of engineering disciplines. It is one of four academic units in a rapidly growing College of Engineering at the University of Georgia: the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, and Mechanical Engineering, the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the School of Computing - a joint partnership with Franklin College of Arts & Sciences.
The Chair of the School of CMB is expected to lead in the execution of College- and University-level strategic plans by building on the already strong culture of collaboration and innovation in the School, by expanding its reputation, promoting inclusive excellence, and demonstrating an enduring commitment to high-quality research and educational programs. The School of CMB currently consists of 18 full-time faculty members and over 500 students enrolled in 7 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
The School administers a majority of the gateway courses that form the core of CMB's undergraduate curriculum as well as the School's upper-level elective and graduate-level courses. The School Chair of CMB will be ultimately responsible for the successful administration of CMB degree programs, including: BS in Biochemical Engineering, BS in Biological Engineering, MS in Biomanufacturing and Bioprocessing, MS in Biochemical Engineering, MS in Biological Engineering, Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering, and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering. As the curriculum and academic head, the School Chair will be expected to coordinate instructional assignments for the undergraduate and graduate programs that are administered by the School and will be responsible for ensuring continued accreditation of degree programs.

College of Engineering faculty have space in a number of major capital projects on campus with established interdisciplinary research facilities. Our main instructional facility, Driftmier Engineering Center, has also recently undergone a complete renovation to create flexible classrooms that enable a range of teaching modalities and the incorporation of interdisciplinary instructional labs. The common instructional facilities also foster interdisciplinary collaboration as they allow faculty, staff, and students to interact and collaborate in a single facility.
