Company Profile

Longroad Energy

Company Overview

Longroad Energy is a Boston, MA-headquartered renewable energy developer focused on the development and operation of wind and solar energy projects throughout North America. Longroad Energy was founded by the former executive team of First Wind Energy: Paul Gaynor (First Wind co-founder and CEO), Michael Alvarez, Peter Keel, and Charles Spiliotis. In 2015, First Wind was sold to a strategic investor for $2.4 billion.

The Longroad team has a consistent track record of successfully financing wind and solar projects, with several company principals and key employees focusing on sourcing construction and long-term capital for the projects, including debt and tax equity. The following provides a summary of the team’s collective track record since 2008:

Completed development and closed financing for 33 projects with approximately 3,300 MW of nameplate capacity, including four high-voltage transmission lines.
Raised over $11 billion of capital, including project finance debt, tax equity, corporate debt, partnerships, and sponsor equity (with notable financing transactions closed during the global financial crisis).
In 2015 post acquisition of First Wind, raised over $4 billion of capital

In October 2016, Longroad secured a significant investment from the New Zealand Superannuation Fund, a sovereign wealth fund, and Infratil Limited, a publicly traded energy and infrastructure investment company. These investors have deep experience in the renewable energy sector, a long-term horizon, and flexibility, providing Longroad with a competitive advantage in the growing U.S. renewables market.

In addition to developing, financing, and constructing renewable energy projects, Longroad provides operations and asset management services to wind and solar projects across the US. Longroad has the ability to be the long-term operator and asset manager for the projects it develops or on behalf of third party owners.
